Pleas for gyms and swimming pools at some parks were among suggestions made by callers to Dubai Municipality’s “Managers on Air” initiative, launched on Tuesday. The Public Parks and Horticulture Department received more than 30 calls from residents and a lack of dedicated parks and recreational areas was the hot topic for discussion. Ahmed Abdul Karim, Director of the department, sat through the two-hour session and said the response to the call-in programme had been positive.

More than 550 companies from across the world have registered their interest in an international design competition to create inspirational public spaces in six town centres in Lancashire.The brief for Pennine Lancashire Squared will be launched this Friday (August 15) in Nelson, but the competition has already attracted interest from more than 40 countries, including China, Australia, India, Venezuela, Vietnam, Iran, Serbia and Peru. Further interest has come from Qatar, Norway, Jordan and Croatia.
