More than 4,500 people have joined a new scheme to ease congestion on Dubai's roads, it has been announced.The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said the number of subscribers to its carpooling service, known as ‘Sharekni’, has exceeded 4,525 - just one month after launching this service.

The developers of Dubai mega ecological project, the Mohammed bin Rashid Gardens, have revealed the master plan for the $60 billion project.Designed by architect Eric Kuhne of London-based CivicArts, the urban development will include educational, financial and commercial facilities, iconic civic buildings and more than 150 km of waterfront and wetlands.

Pleas for gyms and swimming pools at some parks were among suggestions made by callers to Dubai Municipality’s “Managers on Air” initiative, launched on Tuesday. The Public Parks and Horticulture Department received more than 30 calls from residents and a lack of dedicated parks and recreational areas was the hot topic for discussion. Ahmed Abdul Karim, Director of the department, sat through the two-hour session and said the response to the call-in programme had been positive.

The MASDAR initiative, in Abu Dhabi, signed an agreement with a Bahraini petrochemical fertilizer producer, GPIC, this week under CDM regulations. Dr Sultan Al Jaber said, "Masdar is introducing the CDM mechanism to the hydro-carbon based fertilizer industry in the Gulf region" with the initial project capturing over 100,000 tonnes of CO2 for selling to the UN."
